MAKE YOUR OWN JAPANESE RICE WATER HAIR RINSE

Around 800 AD, the ladies at the Japanese Imperial Court used ‘Yu-Su-Ru’ on their hair, the rinse water obtained from washing rice. Their beautiful long hair reached the floor and required lots of attention to keep it look shiny. Rice extracts like starch and oil are frequently used in cosmetics as they are considered to have moisturizing and nourishing effects on the hair and skin.
1 cup oof organic white rice
Place the rice in a deep bowl and pour enough cold water over the rice to cover it completely. Swill the rice around in the water for 30 seconds until it goes cloudy. Carefully strain the water from the rice and pour away – this wash was used to clean the rice. Pour enough water over the rice to cover it completely again. Swill with the rice around in the water for a few minutes this time. Carefully strain the water from the rice and place the ‘rice water’ in a jug or bottle. After you’ve washed your hair, pour the rice water over your hair and scalp. Rinse your hair after 2 minutes.
It is recommended that you use this hair rinse no more than once a week. This rinse will not store so it is best made fresh each time you use it.
